Second Cycle Programmes (Master's Degree)
GRADUATE EDUCATION INSTITUTE
- Mechanical Engineering
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
General Description
|
|
History | | Qualification Awarded | The students who have successfully completed a minimum of 21 local credits (equivalant to 60 ECTS credits) from thought courses delivered within the graduate programme of the department and in related fields, achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and prepared and successfully defended a thesis are given Master's Degree in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING | Level of Qualification (Short Cycle , First Cycle , Second Cycle, Third Cycle) | Second Cycle | Specific Admission Requirements | Bachelor's Degree in acceptable fields,
Sufficient score from the National Academic Staff & Graduate Education Exam (ALES), | Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) | Recognition of prior learning is at the beginning stage in the Turkish Higher Education System. Bayburt University and hence the Department of Mechanical Engineering is no exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each term at the University for courses compulsory in the curriculum, such as Basic Computing. The students who have completed the learning process for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum, and this grade is entered into the transcript of the student. | Qualification Requirements and Regulations | The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed a minimum of 21 local credits (60 ECTS) from thought courses with a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and prepared and defended a thesis. | Profile of The Programme | Mechanical engineering is a broad engineering discipline with a curriculum providing a strong foundation in mathematics and physics followed by in-depth education in thermal sciences, fluid engineering, materials science, solid mechanics and mechanical design. The main objective of the programme is to provide the required knowledge for the rapidly developing science and technology, and to graduate expert engineers having the ability to make search and development. | Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples | The graduates of the mechanical engineering department has many opportunities of employment in a varitey of state and private companies. There are also cases where the graduates setup up their own jobs in various fields of mechanical engineering. | Access to Further Studies | Qualifications Frameworks in the European Higher Education Area (QF-EHEA), Level 3
European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL), Level 8 | Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading | The examination, assessment and grading regulations have been set up for the university by the University Senate and the Department of Mechanical Engineering is bound by these regulations. Each course is assessed via a midterm exam, a second mid-term exam composed of quizzes, homeworks and assignments, and a final end-of-term exam, with contributions of 30%, 20% and 50% respectively. The marking is made out of 100. Grades of 81-100 is assigned a letter grade of AA, 76-80 BA, 70-75 BB, 60-69 CB, 50-59 CC, 45-49 DC, 40-44 DD, 30-39 FD and 0-29 FF. The AA is the highest grade and has a grade credit of 4.00, BA 3.5, BB 3.0, CB 2.5, CC 2.0, DC 1.5, DD 1.0, FD 0.5 and FF 0.0. Grades of AA to CC are pass, DD to FF fail, and DC is conditional pass and requires a CGPA of at least 2.0 for that term. The details given for each course in the programme include the detailed assessment methods together with a description of the second mid-term exam. | Graduation Requirements | The students who have successfully completed a minimum of 21 local credits (equivalant to 60 ECTS credits) from thought courses delivered within the graduate programme of the department and in related fields, achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and prepared and successfully defended a thesis are given Master's Degree in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING. | Mode of Study (Full-Time, Part-Time, E-Learning ) | Full-Time | Address, Programme Director or Equivalent | Dede Korkut Külliyesi

Key Learning Outcomes
|
|
1 | The main objective of curriculum of Mechanical Engineering Department is to provide a professional education and a career both for the students of undergraduate and graduate programs. In association with its primary purpose, it is also aimed to graduate engineers well educated parallel to the rapidly developing technology with required knowledge and ability to transmit this knowledge to practice and having ability to make analyses and syntheses in a wide range of related areas of mechanical engineering. | 2 | Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to :
will have a broad and in-depth knowledge at least in one of the sub-fields of Mechanical Engineering (Mechanics, Machine Dynamics and Control, Construction and Manufacturing, Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer, Materials, Energy, Automotive), and be able to evaluate, interpret and applies the knowledge. | 3 | think out-of-box in asking research questions in the field of his/her study, constructs the research problem, determines and designs the boundaries of the study by considering the social and environmental dimensions, and applies innovative methods in solution. | 4 | take responsibility in multidisciplinary teams, develops holistic approaches in collaboration to solve problems, believe in teamwork | 5 | follow, read, understand and interpret the international literature in their field of study. | 6 | publish the results obtained from their studies in an understandable way and in accordance with ethical principles in respected journals. |
