BAYBURT UNIVERSITY
Bayburt is located on the historic Silk Road connecting the Eastern Anatolia to
the Black Sea. Located on the banks of the river Coruh, the city’s history
dates back to 3000 B.C. Evliya Celebi, who visited Bayburt in 1647, describes its
name with the words “bay” and “yurt” which mean “rich”
and “town” respectively. Occupied by the Russian in 1916, Bayburt was
destroyed to a great extent. Having been a part of Erzurum until then, Bayburt was
attached to Gumushane in 1927 and it gained provincial status in accordance with
the law no. 3578 in 1989. According to the 2013 data of TUIK, Bayburt province has
a population of 75,663 people approximately 40,000 of whom live in the city center.
“A peaceful university in a safe city”
Ever since its founding in 2008, addition to its membership of the higher education
system, Bayburt University has taken aim at being a leading university in the world
with its academic productivity and activity.
For this reason; by providing academicians with the ability to produce scientific
research in an independent environment, our university also prepares well-equipped
students for life in a campus that contains every kind of possibility for a qualified
education.
Apart from being a university that only produces scientific research and educates
students, Bayburt University undertakes sharing the information it produces and
academic experience with the region, the country, the world and particularly with
the city in which it is located.
There is no doubt that all these efforts and targets can be achieved in a university
integrated with the city, socialized with its students and staff, supporting the
freedom of science and mind.
Located on historical Silk Road and founded in Bayburt that is a safe and peaceful
city neighboring such developed cities as Trabzon and Erzurum, our university became,
and remains, a window opening from local to universal by combining pure, clear and
untouched Anatolian culture with academic experience and projects.
