Objectives of the Course
To provide students with a perspective in interpreting the tension between classical and modern ideas by providing the basic structure and philosophy of classical Islamic Legal Theory (Usul-i fiqh) in the context of basic procedural problems such as evidence, wording and istinbat methods through different procedural understandings.

In addition to the Book-Sunnah-Ijma-Qiyas, the controversial evidence and the logic of these evidences and their place in Islamic legal thought will be covered.
