Objectives of the Course |
Considering this primary focus of the course, our campy theme is democracy and multiculturalism and its applications in social studies course. In this, we will question how interrelated tendencies (love of learning, strong knowledge and reflective practice) can shape our teaching approach. The overarching theme of democracy and multiculturalism is the guiding thrust and desired final destination of our journey. We live in a pluralistic society that reflects a rich and diverse mix of cultures and experiences. Therefore, schools should provide learning opportunities that offer all students access to forms of social, political and economic power. Teachers must be able to create environments rooted in social justice and society. They should respect diversity of thought and belief in social studies and value learners of all skill levels, economic levels, and cultural backgrounds. |

Course Contents |
The increasing influx of people all over the planet as a result of globalization presents new challenges to schools and educators. Classrooms at all levels of education are increasingly being filled with a variety of students. These demographic realities require the formulation of increasingly complex theoretical and practical teaching approaches in the global world. The aim of our course is to transform the teachings of international debates on globalization, citizenship and democracy into teaching approaches aimed at promoting success for all students. Besides specializing in a particular subject, one of the greatest challenges for all educators is to recognize and pay attention to the role of education in shaping students' sociocultural identities and preparing them to participate in democratic societies. In this course, we will critically question research in the fields of multicultural education and global citizenship and identify its relevance to our own classrooms and practices (present or future). |
