Objectives of the Course
In order to comprehend the form and essence of art, the iconography of the artwork should be analyzed. In this course, examples of iconographic analysis in European art based on figure depiction will contribute to determining the quality of the cultural environment.

Course Contents
After introducing the basic principles and concepts of the iconography method, the Old Testament and the New Testament are discussed with examples from Western Art; Emphasis is placed on iconographic schema, pattern and display layout changes. In addition, the lives of certain saints and their representations in art are handled within the same system. In the light of the definition of the Iconographic analysis method proposed by E.Panofsky, basic sources are evaluated in the light of Byzantine and European painting examples. The Torah and Bible subjects, on which European painting is based, are analyzed and analyzed with the iconographic method.
