Objectives of the Course
The course aims to provide students with information about the financial markets and their functioning at the doctoral level and learn the role of financial markets in the economy. The roles of financial institutions in financial markets and financial crises, the recent global financial crisis and the roles of financial market regulatory authorities and monetary policy are among the subjects examined. This course will go through important academic studies under each subject and will enable students to recognize the basic literature in order to use these topics in their own research in the future.

Learning Outcomes
1To understand the importance of money, credit and interest rates.
2Understand the duties of market regulatory authorities such as the Central Bank and the Capital Markets Board and the effects of the rules they apply on the markets.
3Understand the role of various financial institutions and their roles in the system such as banks, insurance companies, private equity funds, mutual funds and investment banks.

Introduction of financial system, interest rates, risk and maturity structure, financial markets: money markets, bond markets, stock markets, foreign exchange markets, market efficiency, financial institutions and financial crises, housing finance markets and 2008 financial crisis, central banks and monetary policy , banking, financial market regulatory authorities, banking sector structure and competition, investment banks, private equity and venture capital funds, securities brokerage houses.
