The course will provide methodologies and applications for the preparation of construction areas before the structural works.

Learning Outcomes
1Earthworks types, the stages of the earthworks and to classify the soils.
2To recognize required working machines and their properties for earthworks.
3Efficiency of earthwork machines and specify the factors with main lines that affect the efficiency.
4Choosing the appropriate vehicle type with excavation and compaction methods, calculating the cost and efficiency of mechanical excavation vehicles and transportation vehicles.
5To calculate road cross-sections area, the volume of excavation and filling.

3Soil types in highway engineering, approximate and quick volume calculation, application of the transition to the land
4 Volume calculations, volume calculations based on the types of cross section
5Mass diagram and soil distribution, properties of masses diagram, transportation cost, warehouse and loan transactions, Bruckner method
6Excavation methods and the general evaluation of excavation works
7The production and compaction methods of embankments, the diagram and use of proctor
8Midterm Exam
9The material selection for filling purposes, compaction equipments and their efficiency
10The mechanical tools used in earth works, the calculation of efficiency and cycle period, transportation types and equation of motion
11Applications related with the calculation of efficiency and cycle period
12 The types of explosives used in earth works, the opening of drains, the calculation of the quantity of explosives related to earth works
13Efficiency and organization in earthworks sites, criteria for efficiency, organization types and selection of appropriate structure, costs in earthworks sites, costs of mechanical vehicles, cost calculations of transportation vehicles, expenses in earthworks
