Objectives of the Course
Knowing the makams in Turkish music, learning the sound system and interval concepts of Turkish folk music, and getting to know Anatolia region by region in terms of repertoire. Examining the works of Turkish folk music in terms of notes and solfeggio.

Course Contents
Week 1: Turkish music sound system Week 2: Concept of interval in Turkish music Week 3: Special quintets that are used to create scales in Turkish music. Week 4: Special quartets that are used to create scales in Turkish music. Week 5: The concept of makam in Turkish music Week 6: Concept of Turkish folk music Week 7: Rhythmic and free melodies Week 8: Definition, features and types of folk song Week 9: Concept of method/measurement Week 10: Musical reading (solfeggio bona) Correspondence of makams in Turkish music Week 11: Musical reading in Çargâh makam Week 12: Examination of Buselik, Kürdi Ras makams Week 13: Musical reading exercises in Segâh and Hüseynî maqams Week 14: Examining folk songs according to their structures.

1- Introducing concepts related to Traditional Turkish Folk Music to students. - Briefly conveying to students the development process of traditional Turkish folk music from past to present.- Carrying out practices such as question-answer and brainstorming regarding the basic concepts conveyed to students within the scope of the course content.
2- To create a basic knowledge in students about the general structure of the Turkish music sound system. - Demonstrating the sound intervals and coma sounds specific to Turkish music to the students on the stage.- Performing sensory exercises on the sound intervals and coma sounds specific to Turkish music, accompanied by baglama.
3- Introducing the quartet and quintet scales of Turkish music to students.- Distinguishing the differences between four- and five-tone series in Turkish music performed with baglama accompaniment through hearing.
4- Strengthening the quadruple and quintet tone scales of Turkish music.- Distinguishing the differences between four- and five-tone series in Turkish music performed with baglama accompaniment through hearing.
5- Teaching the concept of makam in Turkish music. - Explaining to students how maqam sequences are formed through examples. - Teaching maqam scales formed by combining quadruple and pentaphal scales in Turkish music.- Performing exercises through hearing and vocalization on simple modes of Turkish music. - Performing solfege accompanied by baglama of traditional Turkish folk music works containing the simple makams taught.
6- Explaining the similarities and differences between Turkish folk music and modal Turkish music. - Demonstrating the equivalents of Turkish music modes in traditional Turkish folk music.- Performing solfeggio accompanied by baglama of traditional Turkish folk music works that will contribute to the reinforcement of the Turkish music sound system and maqam sequences.
7- General review of all theoretical knowledge learned since the beginning of the semester.- General review of all applied knowledge learned since the beginning of the semester.
8- Examining the concept of usul in Turkish music. - Demonstration of simple rhythmic beats in Turkish music.- Demonstration of simple rhythmic beats in Turkish music in a practical way. - Application of Turkish music simple rhythmic beats on Turkish music works.
9- Application of simple rhythmic beats on Turkish music works. - Performing solfege of the determined Turkish music works with the baglama accompaniment and usul beats.
10- Teaching the general structure and singing characteristics of the Buselik makam sequence.- Performing bona and solfeggio exercises on works composed in various forms such as exercises, songs and folk songs composed in the Buselik maqam.
11- Teaching the general structure and chanting characteristics of the Rast makam sequence.- Exercises, songs, folk songs, etc. composed in Rast maqam. Conducting bona and solfeggio studies on works in forms.
12- Teaching the general characteristics and movement structures of the Uşşak and Hüseyni makam scales.- Exercises, songs, folk songs, etc. composed in Uşşak and Hüseyni maqams. Conducting bona and solfeggio studies on works composed in various forms.
13- Teaching the general characteristics and progression structures of the Kürdi and Hicaz maqam scales.- Exercises, songs, folk songs, etc. composed in Kürdi and Hicaz maqam. Conducting bona and solfeggio studies on works in forms.
14- General review of all information learned throughout the semester.- General repetition of all works learned throughout the semester.
