Giving theoretical knowledge and application principles for soil investigation, classification of shallow foundations, design criteria and preliminary information about deep foundations.

Learning Outcomes
1This course will provide versatility and capability of applying the principles of Soil mechanics in planning, design and construction of foundations for engineering structures.
2Gains the knowledge and skills to understand and solve problems arising in engineering applications.
3Have complete knowledge about soil investigation.
4Calculates the bearing capacity of soils (foundations).
5Designs shallow foundations (single, strip and raft).
6Have competence about the suitability of the foundation system.
7Have preliminary knowledge about deep foundations.
