Objectives of the Course
Recognizing the physical and mechanical properties of soils, classifying floors, calculating water pressure and stress condition on soils, explaining how floors are seated and squeezed.

1Gains basic knowledge about soil mechanics.
2Calculates the basic physical properties of soils.
3Explains consolidation theory, calculates consolidation settlement in soils.
4Calculates compression-settlement in structures resting on the ground.
5Calculates the slip resistance parameters of soils using laboratory test data.

Introduction to soil mechanics; Floor problems in civil engineering; Soil origin and composition; Index properties of soils; Classification of floors; Physical, hydraulic properties of soils; Permeability; Current Networks; Compaction of floors; Effective stress, total stress, void water pressure; Stresses due to external loads in floors; Consolidation theory.
