Objectives of the Course
This is an introductory course which introduces students to the basic concepts, approaches and methodologies in sociology. The main aim of the course is; to provide students with a relationship between theory and empirical research, to develop students' sociological imagination and to reveal the rich heritage of sociology in terms of theoretical perspectives and scientific knowledge.

Course Contents
The definition, subject, purpose, difference, boundaries and place of social sciences in sociology, general and brief information about the development of social thought in the period before the emergence of sociology as a science, the birth and development of sociology as a science basic features of contemporary sociology, new approaches in sociology, general knowledge about methodology in sociology, theoretical approaches to family institutions, social status of the family, social role, social structure and social relations. The emergence and development of sociology in Turkey: Turkish community in the family, divorce, and family industrialization, economic institutions, educational institutions, religious institutions, political institutions.
