Discussion of the relationship between aesthetics and architecture; emphasizing the presence, significance, and role of aesthetics in social, cultural, and everyday life, in architecture, and at every stage of the design process.

Course Contents
Basic concepts: Aesthetics, beauty, art, and architecture. The science of aesthetics and its problem areas, aesthetic doctrines, environmental aesthetics, Gestalt theory in perception, aesthetics as a criterion of evaluation in architecture, volumetric aesthetics in architecture, visual balance. Concepts related to form characteristics: Unit size, unity and scale, proportion, rhythm, symmetry.Form-making approaches: Thinking about form, visualization and abstract/concrete form, abstraction/concretization, formation of form, development of ideas and concepts, deriving from product characteristics. Perceptual aesthetics, symbolic aesthetics, formal aesthetics. Presentation through examples, project work, implementation, and production.
